Celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Historic New England’s Book Prize and the tenth anniversary of its Prize for Collecting Works on Paper.
The 2019 Book Prize winner is Rather Elegant Than Showy: The Classical Furniture of Isaac Vose by Robert D. Mussey Jr. and Clark Pearce. This year’s Honor Books are: Treasures Afoot: Shoe Stories from the Georgian Era by Kimberly S. Alexander and A Story of Maine in 112 Objects: From Prehistory to Modern Times edited by Bernard P. Fishman.
The 2019 Prize for Collecting Works on Paper goes to Sam Allen, who assembled the largest known collection of ephemera pertaining to New Hampshire town and city anniversary and Old Home celebrations, to Lance Llewellyn, who has built a superb collection of publications, ephemera, and artifacts related to the State of Vermont, and to Earl Taylor, who assembled a significant collection of photographs, books, manuscripts, ephemera, and artifacts related to Dorchester, Massachusetts.
