Vintage Base Ball and Sheep-Shearing Festival (Canceled)

Saturday, May 2, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Vintage Base Ball Game 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Due to the situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), we have decided to cancel this event. We apologize for the inconvenience. Learn more about Historic New England's response to coronavirus.

Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, 5 Little’s Lane, Newbury, Mass.

Take a step back in time and enjoy a spring day on the farm. Enjoy traditional New England music and watch as champion hand-shearer Kevin Ford carefully clips our resident sheep. Take a wagon ride and cheer on your favorite teams of the Essex Base Ball Association as they play using 1860s rules. At these fun, historically accurate games, players pitch underhand, a ball bounced once and caught is an out, and no gloves are allowed. Snacks, baseballs, and cards are available for purchase. Grass field seating: bring blankets and lawn chairs. No reserved seating. Game end times are approximate. In partnership with the Essex Base Ball Association and Ipswich Ale Brewery.
