Learn how Peter Gilman, devoted subject of the crown, navigated the tumultuous years of the American Revolution in Exeter. This two-part tour starts at Gilman Garrison House, where visitors will consider how Peter Gilman experienced the war while living under house arrest. Then, they will amble through the center of town and hear about Exeter's role as New Hampshire's capital from 1776 to 1783. Along the way, learn how members of Exeter's leading family lived side-by-side in challenging times despite their political differences.
