Description

Sunday, September 1, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Langdon House, 143 Pleasant Street, Portsmouth, N.H.

Shout a hearty huzzah to the Marquis de Lafayette at the Langdon House!

Join Historic New England and the American Friends of Lafayette as we mark the 200th anniversary of the Marquis' farewell tour of the United States - and his celebratory visit to Portsmouth and the Langdon House on September 1, 1824. Visit the Langdon House and learn of John Langdon's revolutionary spirit. Meet Lafayette when he arrives by horse and buggy. Raise a shout in his honor during a three gun salute. Celebrate the fraternal bond between the United States and France with traditional lawn games of the 18th century.

Members of the Sons of the American Revolution will be present at this even and three members will carry and display reproduction and period muskets. Members of the Color Guard will fire a three gun salute with blanks as part of the welcoming ceremony. Visitors can expect the brief sound of gun fire and see and smell smoke.
