Cocktails with the Curator: "The Importance of Being Furnished," Pride Edition
Sunday, June 30, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Eustis Estate, 1424 Canton Ave, Milton, Mass.
Don your dandiest and join us for a Pride event to celebrate the opening of Historic New England’s exhibition, The Importance of Being Furnished: Four Bachelors at Home. At this special after-hours event, enjoy cocktails on the terrace and explore the show with an introduction by its curator, Tripp Evans.
This exhibition tells the stories of four men who defined American style from the Gilded to the Jazz Age, yet whose personal lives have until recently remained mostly in shadow. In profoundly creative ways, these men used their homes to forge identity, foster relationships, and create lasting design legacies – all in an era that looked upon the “bachelor aesthete,” a figure presumed to be gay, with a mixture of admiration and profound suspicion. In Pride month we celebrate their impact on early twentieth-century historic preservation, collecting, and interior design.
