Virtual Program - A Museum of Her Own
Tuesday, September 17, 6:00 p.m.
This virtual program explores the fascinating stories behind three historic house museums created by trailblazing women: Sarah Orne Jewett, Alice Austen, and Emily and Elise Tyson. These independent women infused their historically significant spaces with their own personalities, creative spirits, and deep emotional connections. Our panel of experts will unravel the ways in which Jewett, Austen, and the Tysons challenged traditional expectations and transformed the act of preservation into an audacious declaration of creative resistance. Inspired by our current exhibition, The Importance of Being Furnished: Four Bachelors at Home, on display at the Eustis Estate through October 27, "A Museum of Her Own" reveals the power of personal space in shaping history.
Panel will include Victoria Munro, Executive Director of the Alice Austen House Museum, R. Tripp Evans, curator and author of The Importance of Being Furnished: Four Bachelors at Home, and Alyssa Sweet, Historic New England Southern Maine Site Manager.
