From Our House to Yours: A Members-Only Virtual Tour of Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm
Wednesday, March 19, 6:00 p.m.
Join Historic New England and Newbury Site Manager Shanna Sartori for a virtual tour of the Manor House at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm. Built in 1690 and deemed a National Landmark in 1968, the Manor House is one of the only remaining 17th century stone houses left in the country. Learn about the 390-year-old farm and its evolution over the past four centuries and how the land is utilized today. Hear stories and learn about the six families who worked and resided at the home, including Offin Boardman, the Newburyport merchant and privateer who twice escaped from British prisons after having been captured. Explore the extensive graffiti collection housed in the attic, see invaluable pieces of Newbury furniture, and take a dive into the archaeological digs conducted by Mary Beaudry and Boston University. This virtual tour will unveil just why Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm has been referred to as “the most beautiful piece of architecture in this part of the country.”
