Virtual Program- Discovering American Drag
Wednesday, December 7, 7:00 p.m.
Matthew Wittmann, Curator of the Harvard Theatre Collection at Houghton Library offers a virtual look at the history of drag performance in the United States through photographs, ephemera, and a variety of other archival materials held by Houghton Library at Harvard University. Much of this material is presently on display as part of the library’s American Drag exhibition, which runs through January 6, 2023. The exhibition traces the evolution of the genre, calling attention to the ways in which drag both reflected and inspired changing perceptions of femininity, masculinity, and sexuality. The American Drag exhibition is free and Houghton Library is open to the public from 10am-5pm, Monday through Friday, though visitors should check the website for holiday hours.
This program is co-sponsored with the History Project, the only organization focused exclusively on documenting and preserving the history of New England's LGBTQ communities and sharing that history with LGBTQ individuals, organizations, allies, and the public.
