Italian Americans in Salem: A Neighborhood Walking Tour
Saturday, September 17, 10:00 a.m. - noon
Gedney House, 21 High Street, Salem, Mass.
During the first half of the twentieth century, Salem’s High, Endicott, and Gedney Streets supported a thriving community of Italian immigrants. Historic New England’s Gedney House, located in the heart of the neighborhood, was a tenement that housed multiple Italian American families. On this walking tour, revisit a past where small shops and fruit stalls, the Christopher Columbus Society, homemade wine, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church were a way of life.
